How this works

We scope the work, appoint the specialist, model the commercial case and manage delivery. The installation is carried out by contractors who hold the relevant accreditations and insurance for that trade.

  1. Establish the case

    We start from your half-hourly data and your invoices, not from a product. If the numbers do not support the work, we say so.

  2. Specify properly

    A quotation without fittings, circuit loads, output levels, warranty terms and the relevant standard is not comparable to another quotation. We write the specification so that it is.

  3. Appoint the specialist

    We approach contractors qualified for that trade and put the quotations side by side on the same basis.

  4. Model the commercial case

    Capital cost, expected annual reduction, and the range around it. We show the range rather than a single number, because installed performance varies with how the site actually runs.

  5. Manage delivery

    We hold the programme, check the work against the specification and confirm the change in consumption once there is enough data to see it.

We do not move to the next step until the previous one holds. If the case does not stand up at step one, there is no project.

Omnium does not carry out installation work. Design, supply and installation are delivered by third party contractors. Where a project involves regulated or accredited work, that accreditation sits with the contractor and we will tell you who holds it.

What we work on

Six areas of physical work, each scoped against what the meter data already shows rather than against a product we happen to sell.

LED lighting

Replacing existing fittings with LED reduces both the lighting load and, in a conditioned space, some of the cooling load that lighting creates. It is usually the most straightforward project on a site because it changes one thing.

The detail matters more than the headline. Output levels, colour temperature and control gear determine whether the space is still fit for the work being done in it. Kitchens and back of house areas are covered by lighting standards that a like for like swap can quietly fail.

Solar PV

On-site generation offsets what you buy during daylight hours. How much of it you actually use, rather than export, depends on when your site draws load.

We size against your half-hourly profile rather than against roof area. A system sized to the roof and not to the load produces a return that looks better on paper than it does on the invoice.

Battery storage

Storage shifts load rather than reducing it, moving consumption away from expensive periods and, on some sites, supporting resilience.

The case depends on the shape of your tariff and your profile, and on whether you are also generating. It is the technology where the commercial model matters most and where we are most likely to advise against proceeding.

EV charging

Charging changes a site’s load, sometimes materially, and can push demand past the agreed capacity you are billed on.

We look at the capacity position before the charger specification, because a capacity upgrade is often the largest single cost in the project and it is better known at the start than discovered at the end.

Voltage optimisation

UK supply voltage typically sits above the level much equipment is designed for. Reducing it at the point of entry can reduce consumption on some equipment types.

It does not work on everything, and the saving depends on what is connected. We test the case against your own data rather than applying a percentage.

Heat pumps

Heat pumps move heat rather than generate it, which changes both consumption and emissions profile when replacing gas heating.

The result depends on the building, the existing distribution system and how the space is used. The assessment is a building question as much as an energy question, and we scope it that way.

Before you spend anything

Some of the largest reductions we find need no capital at all. Excess agreed capacity, plant running outside operating hours, and billing errors are all recoverable without a project.

We look at those first. It is a poor use of your capital to install equipment to reduce a cost that should not have been on the invoice.
