New connections
A new meter runs in a fixed order. Contract, appoint, energise.
Apply.Programme.Energise.
Request a new meter
A supply contract, then the metering appointment, then the meter itself, and that order cannot be shortcut. Send us the request online or as a PDF and we will arrange the rest.
Pick the supply and complete the request online. It asks for the same detail as the printed form, so the job goes to the metering provider right the first time.
Anything you cannot answer, leave blank and say so in the notes. We would rather chase one gap than have a job rejected and requeued.

What we need before anything can be raised
A Letter of Authority is a Level 1 authority only. What it allows, and what it does not, is set out on the Letter of Authority page.
The supply point number
The MPAN for electricity or the MPRN for gas. The network issues it when you accept its connection quotation, and for electricity it needs to be showing on the industry database.
A signed Letter of Authority
Level 1 only, which lets us gather information and go to market. You sign every contract yourself.
The completed request form
Online or as a PDF. Send the network quotation with it and we will read the technical fields off that rather than ask you for them.
The site works quote paid
Once issued. The job is not raised with the meter operator until it is, and that is the stage where a delay is most often invisible from your side.
The stages, and what each one takes
Each stage starts when the one before it finishes, so the earlier a request arrives complete, the earlier the meter goes in.
On receipt
We check the request
We read it the day it arrives and come back the same day if anything is missing. The supply point has to be live with us under a signed Letter of Authority before a job can be raised.
7 working days
Contract signed and live
We take the supply to market and register the contract once you have signed it. A new supply has no incumbent and no notice period, so this is the one chance to start on a properly tested rate rather than a deemed one.
7 to 10 working days
Metering appointed and scheduled
We appoint the meter operator and the data agents, ours or ones you nominate, and the job goes into their schedule once the site works quote is paid.
28 days
The meter appointment
The metering provider contacts your site contact direct to book a date, within a standard 28 day window. Out of hours attendance can be requested, and cancellations and rescheduling sit under their terms.
| Stage | Indicative time | Depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Contract to market and live | 7 working days | Your signature |
| Agent appointment and scheduling | 7 to 10 working days | Site works quote paid |
| Meter appointment window | 28 days | Engineer availability |
| End to end, running cleanly | 6 to 7 weeks | Site readiness |
Indicative and sequential, not a guarantee. Dates depend on engineer availability, on the site being ready, and on the network having completed its own work. We will tell you the moment a stage slips rather than let a date pass quietly.
What has to be ready on the day
The metering provider books direct with your site contact. A visit that cannot go ahead is charged and the job goes back into the schedule, so this is the list worth checking twice. Nearly ready is not ready.
Electricity
- Tails installed and terminated by your electrician, dead side ready.
- Meter board, panel or CT chamber built as designed, with the correct CT ratio and polarity, test terminal block and labelling.
- A mobile signal at the meter position, or an antenna solution agreed in advance.
- Safe access, clear working space, and any permit, induction or parking arranged.
- Someone on site for the whole appointment who can give access.
- Agreed who is inserting the fuse or doing the switching, and when.
- Internal wiring complete and certified.
Gas
- Pipework and the emergency control valve installed, and the meter position complete.
- Meter box or housing fitted where the meter is external.
- Enough room to work, adequate ventilation, and nothing stored against the position.
- Safe access to the position, and any permit, induction or parking arranged.
- Someone on site for the whole appointment who can give access.
- Agreed who is purging, commissioning and recommissioning appliances afterwards.
After the meter goes in
A site can be energised and still go wrong quietly, so we check four things rather than assume them: that the meter is communicating and data is arriving, that the opening reads and meter details match what the supplier holds, that the first invoices are validated for payment against the signed contract, and that the renewal is logged the day the contract starts.

Questions about new connections
Under the industry supplier hub arrangements, the metering agents are appointed by the supplier, not by you and not by the network. A meter operator cannot act on a supply point it has not been appointed to. So the order is fixed: supply point number, supply contract, agent appointment, meter. Leaving the contract until the building is finished does not save time, it adds weeks to the end of the project.
Then the step to chase is the network, not us. The number is issued when you accept the network connection quotation. Send us the quotation as soon as you have it and we will tell you what else we need, so that nothing waits on paperwork once the number lands.
Yes. Name them on the request and we will appoint them. Tell us at this stage rather than after appointment, because changing an appointment once it is registered takes longer than making the right one first. If you have no preference we appoint ours, which is usually the faster route.
The visit aborts, it is charged, and the job goes back into the schedule. That is worse than having waited a week. If the honest answer is that the site will not be ready, tell us and we will hold the booking rather than spend your money proving it.
Allow around six to seven weeks end to end where every stage runs cleanly: seven working days to contract, seven to ten working days to appoint and schedule, then the 28 day appointment window. A required by date is always taken into account and cannot be guaranteed, because the works are booked against meter operator engineer availability.
Yes, field for field. Use whichever suits you. The online form saves the request to us directly; the PDF can be completed in Adobe Reader and emailed to siteworks@askomnium.co.uk if you would rather circulate a document for sign-off first.
Either by a margin on the final unit rate or by a fixed management fee, agreed in writing before any contract is signed. Site works are quoted per job before anything is raised. This page holds no prices.
