Common questions
Each answer states what applies, what does not, and what we would need from you to answer against your own data.
A Letter of Authority is a signed document that lets us speak to your suppliers and network operators on your behalf. We use it to gather invoices, meter data and contract details so we can build a dated, checkable record of your account. Without it, suppliers will not release the information we need to review your billing, capacity or consumption patterns.
We hold a Level 1 Letter of Authority only. That authorises us to request information, validate billing and advise you. It does not let us sign contracts, change supply arrangements or commit you to anything. You sign every contract yourself, and you can cancel the authority at any time.
Yes. The authority is limited to information gathering and advice. It does not give us power of attorney, access to your bank accounts or the right to bind you to a supply. We keep a copy of the signed authority with your account file and we only use it for the purpose stated on the form.
The authority lasts for as long as you are an Omnium client, unless you revoke it. You can cancel it in writing at any time, and we will confirm within two working days that your suppliers have been notified. A cancelled authority does not affect contracts you have already signed.
We read the half-hourly data your electricity meters already produce. That shows when a site is drawing power, how much, and whether demand matches the hours the building is supposed to be in use. Where a site has no half-hourly data, we say so rather than guess, and we set out what would need to change to get it.
Bill validation checks that the charges on an invoice match the signed contract and the meter readings. An energy waste report reads the meter data to show when energy is being used and whether that use matches the way the site is run. One checks whether you were billed correctly; the other checks whether the underlying use can be reduced.
Not always. Network charges, agreed capacity, out-of-hours running and billing errors are all costs that sit on the bill regardless of supplier. We look at those first, because they often produce a larger correction than a tariff change and do not require a contract switch.
The latest full invoice for each meter and a signed Letter of Authority are usually enough to start. If you have half-hourly data available we will ask for it, but we can also request it directly from the meter operator once the authority is in place.
Bill validation and capacity reviews are carried out at no cost as part of an Omnium appointment. Energy waste reports are charged at a low fixed fee agreed in writing before the work starts. Where a change we identify needs implementing, our fee for that work is also set out in writing and you are free to use your own contractors.
We set out the finding in writing, show the source document or meter data it is based on, and list the options. If a change is needed, we cost it and agree the fee before anything proceeds. You decide what to do next; we do not instruct contractors or place orders without your written approval.
